Expropriation Threat

No matter which hazard or threat leads to a disaster, our principles apply. For efficient disaster response a trusted team of people, with a variety of different strengths and skillsets, need to be able to work together, stay in control of the situation and overcome the challenges.

Unfortunately, we ourselves were threatened by disaster on August 30th 2023, which required us to overcome an unexpected challenge.

Without any warning, our beautiful CPYC training areal and Headquarters, which we lovingly call our “ wilderness paradise “was put under an expropriation threat by motion 2023-MC-198.

Because we were able to put our principles into action, on Sep 19th, our voices were heard and the motion was stopped as a result of our effective disaster response.

During the recovery phase, it is crucial to include lessons-learned from the disaster response and to apply them to any future threats.

The outcome of this expropriation threat is a strengthened mandate and workload for our Community Action Team:

Which focuses on community resilience and disaster mitigation by identifying and preparing responses to threats that impact our collective safety and well-being. This includes events or developments that put our community values, environment, health, heritage and economic well-being at risk.

Make a difference today, join our team!
