Our Mission
Building Community Resilience and Disaster Readiness Through Youth Engagement
Changing the culture of preparedness in Canada requires the understanding that empowerment and resilience go far beyond messaging. They are the result of growing up learning to trust in ones abilities, complimented with continuous training of special technical skills and expertise that allow efficient teamwork to safely intervene and minimize negative impact. WITH and THROUGH youth, we aim to raise awareness of the option to be prepared and ready to deal with challenges caused by a changing climate; and to strengthen our collective disaster resilience, spread hands-on knowledge and skills which empower us to reduce negative impact on us, our homes, our communities, and our country. Through collaboration, education, and proactive initiatives, CPYC aims to create a future where preparedness becomes second nature and resilience becomes a way of life.
The Need
Floods, wildfires, and extreme weather events are increasingly impacting Canadians. To adapt, we must change our emergency preparedness culture, cultivate citizen capacity, and enhance individual and community resilience.
The Vision
To serve as a Not For Profit catalyst for disaster resilient communities through local capacity building and shifting Canada’s culture of preparedness to a sustainable whole of society approach
Our Mission
Equip and empower the next generation with hands-on training and skills to anticipate, prepare for, mitigate, respond to, and recover from disasters; to close the gap between those affected and those addressing the challenges.
“Resourcefulness - Confidence - Readiness”
Our Motto:
Our Mindset
The swift action and initial response of citizens after a disaster are key to significantly minimizing negative impact and trauma.
Most rescue operations can be accomplished with basic tools and manual labor. Having confidence in your abilities enables you to take immediate action and assist those in need.
Each trained citizen acts as a force multiplier, capable of leading fellow citizens in conducting rescue operations during destructive disasters.
When disaster strikes citizens have to be the first to respond. Preparedness and training can significantly improve their safety and effectiveness, transforming them from passive bystanders to active leaders.
