CPYC visit to German partner organization

THW Youth national camp July 27 - Aug 3 2024

CPYC’s program is based on the German Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) basic training curriculum  (which is the same for both adults and youth, with different methodology). As Canada does not currently have any organisation comparable with the THW, CPYC was founded to allow youth to spearhead the initiative to build this additional capacity with the currently missing technical capabilities (adapted to Canadian needs, and in addition to community engagement/activism which is not part of THW’s mandate).

The invitation to participate in this year’s Federal Youth Camp Bundesjugendlager “BuJuLa” came to allow our team to fully immerse into the world of enthusiastic THW volunteers, to understand the organisational cohesion, the collaboration of the youth and adult component, the depth of the training elements, the value of the standardized training and why it is important to ensure each and every element of the training curriculum is done according to standards. The skills competition as well as the certifications for some groups on day 3, will highlight this like no other event could.

In addition, we will have 2 days of training for our CPYC volunteers, to add the practical training with the technical equipment, which CPYC does not have yet, and could therefore only do theoretically/virtually. This training will be facilitated by various youth groups who take time out of their camp program specifically to help us out.

WE ARE SUPER EXCITED and very grateful to THWJugend for the invitation and hospitality, and to the Canadian Red Cross for making this trip possible by sponsoring our air fare!
